The recession is dwindling and ad spends are slowly increasing each week. In a recent statement, Google (1) – the Godfather of internet advertising - reported a 7% increase in third quarter earnings compared to last year. How did they do it? One very good indicator of a recovery from a dismal economy is money being spent to acquire new customers. Companies are finally realizing that withdrawing their advertising budgets can prove to be fatal. People don’t forget, they remember who stayed steadfast during difficult times and appreciate companies that stay loyal to their customer base.
A current report submitted by the IAB (Internet Advertising Bureau) indicated a decline in the first quarter of 2009 (2) – surely this attributed to a lack of faith in the economy from the fallout caused by corporate greed and mismanagement of the entire banking system/housing market.
After speaking with countless clients – any news of an increase in advertising spending is welcome news. People are looking for signs of a recovery. Since Google purchased the now known “Google Adsense” platform in 2003 from Applied Semantics (3) – the face of online advertising has been dominated by the keyword giant. All signs according to Google are pointing towards a recovery – which is long overdue. All one has to do is look at what Automotive advertising is doing. Whenever there’s trouble in the economy – Automotive ad spends dip and companies hoard their money until the dust clears.
Auto is up – Mobile searches are up – times are changing. Where does your company fall in this spectrum? Are you looking to increase your ROI or drive more leads? Now is the time to take advantage of cheap inventory (publishers need money too), what better place to start than with a network? The cyclical balance of advertising and consumer confidence is finally recovering and now is the time to "put your money with your mouth is" and control your own destiny.
Confidence has returned in the nick of time.
